The Trend of Black Wedding Dresses has been becoming more trendy in the past few years. Many people used to sigh and wonder how a bride would wear a Black Wedding Dress for her Big Day, but this is in fact becoming more common those days!

Since the Victorian era, white has been the traditional color of choice for brides to wear on their special day. But, while white appears classic and lovely, it isn’t a bride’s only option. For those who are willing to follow their own personality and fashion style in particular, black makes a gorgeous selection for a wedding gown.

Dark, decadent, elegant, and chic, this inky hue is ideal for fashion-forward brides. It can be an all Black Wedding Dress, a Black Bridal Gown mixed with another color, or a Black Gown with Black Beadings to make it less Gothic. So, if you’re looking to create a bold statement on your big day, why not consider this shade? Here, we’ve rounded up a selection of 9 of the most stunning black wedding dresses we have created for our brides for you to view. But first, check out this lovely collage for these gowns before scrolling down!

1- Black Lace Wedding Dresses:

One of the most beautiful artistic touches you can have for your wedding dress, is to have Black Lace Added to it. Lace gives the gown such elegance. It doesn’t have to be all covered up in Lace. It can have Lace all over, or lace only in the Bodice Area. Here is an examples of a gown that we have done with lace all the way down with a removable train for our Connecticut bride Samantha.

2- Black and Blush/Colored Mermaid Wedding Dresses with Lace

We also love adding a hint of color to Black to give it a more lively look. Check out this Black and Blush gown we have created for our bride Emily from Alabama. The combination of colors created a soft look which doesn’t look as Gothic-y as plain Black Dresses.

3- Black & White Mermaid Wedding Dresses

If you’re contemplating to wear a black wedding dress, but aren’t sure about completely abandoning the classic white, why not embrace both shades? With a mixture of black and white, you can maintain a sense of tradition while also showcasing your unique style. This beautiful Black and White Wedding Dress was created based on what our Michigander’s bride Julie had in mind. Beadings were added to make sure the dress looks like a Wedding Dress, and the beautiful flowing skirt also created a beautiful contrast with the rest of the gown.

4- Black and White Vintage or Medieval Wedding Dresses

Vintage Fashion is also a style we truly love! Medieval Wedding Dresses are romantic, timeless and can have different traditional or modern styles. They typically consist of a Corseted Bodice and a Flowing Skirt. It is soft, elegant and timeless. Our 4th dress here was created for our Michigander bride Renee and it included a removable jacket so she can easily have 2 different looks on her Wedding Day.

5- Plain Gothic Ballgown Wedding Dress

A black wedding dress makes a particularly perfect option for brides who love a gothic look. While most black dresses will project a slight gothic aesthetic, specific styles do embrace the beautifully dark style more intensely. Adding a black veil and opting for dark makeup can also help achieve an entire gothic appearance. Our 5th dress here was created for our Minnesota bride Tori and she looked gorgeous in it!

6-Black Ballgown With Beadings and Lace

Our 6th dress here is a black ballgown which combines lace and beadings on top of it to make it less than a purely Gothic Wedding Dress. This gown has been featured on Wedding Day Magazine in March 2020. It is so beautiful and elegant. The long train also creates a Fairytale Like vibe! Needless to say, the model who wore it (Katelynn) looked gorgeous!

7-Black Ballgowns with Full Beading on the Bodice

Black Ballgowns can also include beading all over the bodice to create some beautiful contrast and make it appear less Gothic-y than it would be without them. Check out this beautiful gown we have created for our Ohio bride Roszhawn. Doesn’t she look gorgeous?!

If you’ve become accustomed to traditional weddings, you may think your only choice for wedding dress colors are the various shades of white or ivory. However, in recent years more and more brides have been moving away from white dresses and moving towards dresses in a variety of colors, including black!  If you’ve been thinking about wearing a black wedding dress, let one of our beautifully designed black wedding dresses inspire you!:)

Remember that Brides & Tailor is specialized in creating custom wedding dresses of all colors, not only Black! So whether you are looking for a custom black wedding dress, a totally gothic-y custom gothic dress or any other colors, we’ve got your back!

This beautiful Styled Shoot was recently featured on Wedding Day Magazine, one of the most prominent Wedding Day Magazines in the Midwest! It is the result of the efforts of state of the art Michigan Wedding Vendors who worked together to bring an artistic moodboard into reality.

The idea of an alternative black wedding dress came from myself- Manal from Brides and Tailor, and Brittany from Great Lakes Event Planning! We pictured a stunning black ball gown in a modern and lighter colored venue. The choice of Gold/Black color tones turned out to be just gorgeous! All the elements complemented each other so nicely and beautifully.

The Wedding Dress and veil were a showstopper! When I was working on the design of this gown, I wanted it to be in Black but not too Gothic-y. I wanted beading to be placed over the lace to give it some sort of a 3D effect, and beautiful volume to make it truly bridal. The final result turned out to be gorgeous, with hundreds of small pieces of beading added all over the gown from top to bottom. The veil also had the same design of the dress with lace and beadings to create a timeless look!

Brittney from Great Lakes Event Planning made it a breeze to work together on this shoot. Most of the people do not know how much of hard work it takes to produce this beautiful work of Art, and I must say this group of vendors were just OUTSTANDING. Lauren, our photographer, was amazing and focused on capturing even the tiniest of details. Her photos are so beautiful and airy! Douglas, our videographer, was also awesome to work with! He made sure all the videos taken reflected both behind the scenes footage and live videos from the actual shoot.

Our models were so great to work with too! The atmosphere was just so much fun! Katelynn’s makeup consisted of a beautiful smokey eye and bold red lipstick by Norma, and the hair was hairstyled into a beautiful classic up-do by Carleana! Bradley wore a black tux as well, so it was all a matchy-match!

The beautiful white, gold and green tones floral work by Plum Market was just so classy and elegant, and the stunning floral arch was created by the talented Joy who paints each one of these petals individually. This is honestly just the perfect backdrop to any bridal party! The stationary created by Lyndsay was so moody and edgy- I loved the calligraphy in there!

The venue for this shoot was chosen because of its bright and airy aesthetic. The Roostertail is honestly one of the most beautiful venues in Detroit! It is the perfect combination for indoor/outdoor weddings!  Paired with the moody colors of the bride’s dress, this contrast is a match made in heaven! The cake was exclusively made by Karlee, and its beautiful gold and black mix truly complemented the rest of the moodboard!

One of the most beautiful aspects of the table were the gorgeous black linen colors provided by Luxe Event Linen, rentals by event Source and Upstage Kzoo’s candleholders, golden glass cups without forgetting the statement peacock chair. Needless to say, Britt did an awesome job setting everything up and making sure it was all picture-perfect! Since we wanted to touch on a moody trend for this shoot, black cake, a black dress, black acrylic chairs and black velvet linens are ahead of the trend! Here are some extra photos captured from this lovely day. You will also be able to watch a video at the bottom,so make sure you don’t miss a thing!

As a final note, To all brides all over the US and not only in Michigan I say: Always remember that your wedding dress should reflect your personality. If you cannot find a custom black wedding dress that truly matches your personality, count on Brides & Tailor to  create your dream bridal gown. We promise this will be an unforgettable experience! ”  – Manal

Valentine’s Day is the one time of year you’ll see loud proclamations of love across social media, in the glances exchanged at dining tables, and in the eyes of a man walking home from work with a giant bouquet of roses for his sweetheart.  And so, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we wanted to feature one of our brides’ beautiful wedding which wasn’t actually on Valentine’s Day, but the colors do make us feel that it actually was! 🙂

When Roszhawn first contacted Brides & Tailor for a custom wedding dress design, she knew she wanted a timeless, statement ballgown. She also wanted to have beadings all over the bodice, and we suggested having see-through tulle that matched her skin tone color so the sleeves look illusional on her body. The end result was just out of this world! We truly appreciate it when brides make a long drive to get to us.We can ship our gowns to all states but meeting our brides is also something I look forward to! Roszhawn made the drive from Cincinnati to Michigan and needless to say, this was a memorable experience she will never forget! When you look at these photos below, you’ll know why- Her gown was a STATEMENT one!

On her wedding day, the colors were just so pretty! The groom wore a Black Tuxedo. The bride’s hairstyle looked very classy and elegant, and the best part about the makeup was the bold red lipstick color. They chose Black and Red for the bridesmaids and groomsmens’ outfits, and the beautiful contrast definitely reminded me of Valentine’s Day in the middle of October:) The cake also matched with beautiful roses and black accents on it. The bridal bouquet was white in addition to all the bridesmaids’ bouquets. In brief, even though the Wedding Dress was black and the entire theme was Red and Black, it wasn’t too Gothic-y! It was a mix of classiness, vibrancy and elegance.

So for all the brides planning to get married on Valentine’s day, out of all of the cheese romantic lovely days to get married on, Valentine’s Day seems like a pretty good choice. Plus you’ll never forget your wedding anniversary!:) Check out some lovely photos from Our Bride’s Wedding Day Below!
